Yes, the side water bottle pockets on the UA Hustle 5.0 Backpack are made of mesh.
My son is in second grade and is small for his age. He has used his hustle backpack since kindergarten. It works great for fitting snow pants, hats, gloves and even his coat if it warms up in the afternoon. And he has never complained about being uncomfortable. The straps and back have really nice padding. The best part is that you can throw shoes in the bottom for when they wear snow boots to school.
