Great fit and comfortable
I think it's my favorite new short? Stopped by DSG, tried them on, and immediately felt that hey these seem to work *really* well. It's all about the size and proportions. That's what I like. It's not that the fabric is magical or the colors or graphics are amazing---which they are, simply by being plain solid colors with minimal/subdued graphics (just a small logo square on one side, the way it should be). The shorts fit so well. And this is so hard for me to find. I have big seat and thighs that look and feel awful in most shorts. Rugby/football type of seat and thighs. A lot of dudes wouldn't understand how difficult it is to look good when you have big seat and thighs. It's *very* difficult. These shorts are by far the best I've tried. I feel like I actually look good in them. Not just "not bad", but actually good. They feel really good too. And they work no problem in all the key leg movements---squats, deadlifts, lunges. The only thing that made me wonder was the 5-in inseam. I'm used to 7-in and I feel like 6-in would be perfect but 5-in could be too short? And it's true, when I squat, I get more skin on my upper thighs than I'm used to, though not much more. In fact, the total length of these shorts is the exact same as my 7-in inseam shorts---meaning the outside length is the same and it's only the distance from the crotch to the thigh sleeve that is shorter. So when I'm standing, these shorts seem a normal length to my eye. It's only when I'm squatting that they go shorter than I'm used to (because the shorter inseam forces the sleeve to ride up a bit more?). So for that I'll probably be wearing some boxer briefs underneath at first---although what I see in the mirror looks still very reasonable without them. It's not an obscene amount of extra skin, just a bit more than I'm personally used to. Not to knock down the 5-in inseam. I much prefer this over the 8-in mesh UA short that I remember trying around 2015 that felt too tight and look horrible---they hugged the thigh more closely which is fine for skinnier dudes but I just looked like a Popsicle on a stick despite the waist size being right, plus I always felt an uncomfortable tugging whenever I squatted in those, so I quickly stopped wearing them. Again, this is for the older 8-in version that I once got around 2015. The fabric is nice. Not magical, just nice. It's standard polyester mesh, super breathable, very comfortable. There is an interior lining that is opaque so your skin can't show through. Also pure polyester, so sweat-wicking. I'll admit this fabric would not be my first choice when shopping for shorts. Not that it shouldn't be, just that it hasn't been. But boy does it work well for me, especially because it looks stronger and thicker, and that turns out to look better than the thinner fancier polyester or nylon fabrics. There is no pulling or tugging when I sit or bend the hips. This is a pain point in a lot of shorts. I have no concerns about range of motion or putting stress on the seams with my big thighs (and risking them popping while squatting). There are pockets. For a long time I stayed away from shorts with pockets because they add extra stuff that can irritate and distract. But almost all shorts have pockets, so I just accept them. They're alright. Convenient when I'm going from the locker room to the weights or treadmills and handling something in my hands, so I can throw my earbuds or iphone in there until my hands are free. I could live without them, but I can also live with them. The colors are nice. Not magical, just nice. Mind you, this is exactly how I like them. I hate fancy graphics or color schemes. So plain solid color is the only way to sell me. The nice thing about these particular solid colors that I bought (black and navy) is that they are especially rich and strong. The black is blacker than most of my other black clothes, and the navy is extra dark too. These colors pop. For dark shorts, I think that's a plus. It looks good. The drawstring is on the outside and I don't like my drawstring knots poking through my untucked shirt, so I have to fold those over inside the shorts to hide them. I'm used to that, but it would be nice to just have the drawstring on the inside. One less thing to worry about. Anyway, I'm really loving these shorts. They just seem to work so well on my thick legs. Y'all don't know how difficult it can be to find that.
